I have been fortunate enough to stay at Lux*/ Diva Maldives twice. 1st time in Nov 2010 and then in August 2011.This review is based on our Aug 2011 stay
Airport/Meet greet & transfer is excellent, very efficient and the private lounge is god send whilst waiting for your sea plane, time to stop and chill out after what seemed to be continiual travellling for a day with two children, Check in is also completed here and there is a selection of soft drinks, tea, coffee and pastries should you wish.
The Island - Lux* is a long narrow island with accomodation on each side, with several restaurants and bars to choose from. It takes about 25/30 minutes to walk the length of the island but there are buggies that are available although at peak times and rain times then it is very difficult to find an empty buggy. There are bikes available for hire although riding on sand can prove to be difficult.
Beach Villas - We stayed in a beach villa on the Sunset side of the island, these are extremely spacious (plenty of room for 2 extra beds) a high vaulted ceiling and plenty of wardrobre space and a vast outdoor bathroom with large bath and 2 showers. The Sunset side has the wider stretch of beach but also the seaplanes take off and land fairly early from this side. Some are in need of some refurbishment now I would say but it is a difficult task to keep on top off with 2 monsoon seasons a year!!!! Housekeeping come in twice a day and clean turn down the room ,although a small broom would be good in the room as lots of sand gets in during the day
Dining - Lux* has several dining options - we stayed B&B. The Italian Allegria is fantastic simply amazing food and service. I would return just for the Gnochi. There is also an Eastern asian buffet restaurant which we always found very good but it was often very busy. Senses is in a great position but service was not as good as other restaurants. Lunch we tended to eat at the Veli (pool bar) and service was good with a good choice.Noo the other buffet restaurant is very nice too and breakfast offers a wide choice although the buffets could be warmer and I wish they offered more curries.seafood in the evenings. After our stay in Novemeber we commented about the childrens menu and to the credit of Lux* they had changed it. Dining is not cheap here but the quality of food is super. Iru bar is great for a cocktail before dinner and to watch the sunset!
Kids Club- If you are travelling with children then this will be important to you. The staff are lovely and keep the children entertained with lots of interesting activities, they do tend to be repeated weekly so if your staying longer then you may find it repetitive. They are very amenable and our 7 year old was outnumbered by 3/4 year olds, Imma took him off on a bike ride!! The Marine bioligist touch tank is brilliant!
Spa - The Spa is lovely very tranquil and excellent massages but not cheap and you need to book in advance.
Excursions - Lux*/Diva offer a free house reef trip everyday and it is worth going on. They also offer a Whale Shark excursion and if you are there its a must do, to be able to swim with such majestic creatures is not an oppurtunity to be missed. Chiara the Marine Biologist is extremely knowledgeable and if you can go and speak to her and find out all you can.
Pools - Lux* has 2 infinity pools, the Veli pool gets very busy and has limited sunbeds and as a family we chose to use this pool. There are plenty of towels for use.
Senses pool was larger and much quieter than Veli pool and when the children were being entertained in kids club we chose this pool.
Overall Lux* is a fantastic resort, it has plenty to offer for families and couples a like. I have no hesistation in recommending LUX* as a resort and I look forward to hopefully returning one day to see the changes that Naide have made.
Stayed August 2011, in room: 301
