Cruising on the pristine seas of Maldives

13 October 2011 | By Noona Hussain

The islands are scattered across the Indian Ocean like a beautiful garland, each island is separated from the other by the beautiful ocean. For travellers, this is the ideal location for an adventurous and exciting holiday. Travelling through the seas from island to island, discovering new things at every stop is appealing to many tourists who visit the Maldivian Islands.

Take a safari boat for example. On a clear, sunny day, when the weather is perfect, the boat sails smoothly across the vast ocean. Guests, who are on board, have the entire ocean for themselves. To swim at which ever spot they want, to go surfing, diving and snorkelling. It is only a matter of saying what you feel like doing, when you feel like doing it.

The fact that you can anchor the boat on request at any island, inhabited or un-inhabited is something unique you could try out. Locals have a way of inviting guests to their homes, and serving them the traditional Maldivian food of different sorts. At your dream holiday, it could be an interesting way to spend the day, by getting to know the locals, and getting to know the rich culture and heritage of the islands.

The safari’s themselves are quiet something. Everything from big screen TV’s, to Jacuzzi’s on the decks are available on most safari’s operating in the Maldives today. Guests could chill on the big boat, fully connected to the outside world through technology, even though they are miles away from the islands. The feeling you get by being able to contact the rest of the world, while still being a good hundred miles away is not something you get to experience every day. The sense of freedom, serenity, and tranquillity is much appealing.

One important fact to remember while sailing is to always be aware of the ocean, the currents, and to never go swimming alone. Even if you have the crewmen on watch, it is a risky thing to do. Having said that, guests do love swimming in the deep areas of the ocean, and this could be well arranged, if you know to swim, and if you do not go too far out by yourself.

You could ask for a barbeque on a private sandbank for the night if you prefer. Guests can enjoy a night of fun filled with music and barbequed fish caught freshly from the ocean, on a private sandbank. Especially on a full moon night, when the skies are lit up by the big bright moon and the moon beams light up the ocean, creating the illusion of slow slithering silver snakes on the tip of each wave. The magic that a full moon brings is quiet something. You could sit on the beach, cuddle up with your beloved and watch the breathtaking scenery for hours and hours, and not know how time flies by.

Experience this relaxing holiday idea by sailing through the islands, on a safari boat. A true holiday will always include a little bit of the country’s history, culture, their exotic beauty, and of course, the friendly locals. Come enjoy the ultimate holiday in the Maldivian Islands!
